Cat Eye Care | ||

Eye care of pet cats is the duty of their masters, that is, humans. A cat cannot do that itself. In fact, if it does so, esp. with its paws and nails or by brushing against some hard object, it can hurt itself. It can cause scratches or it may even result in pushing dirt and debris into the eye. Cat eye care is an absolute must because the accumulation of eye discharges can result in infection; in addition to maintaining hygiene and good looks.
If a cat’s eyes are healthy, it will be moist and clear.
Unhealthy cat eyes will have some of the following symptoms:
If you observe something serious, immediately consult a vet. Or you may use any of the cat eye care tools (which are explained below) to do some home-based cat eye maintenance.
Use Blunt-Nosed Scissors…
….for trimming of overgrown hairs around the eyes which may later try to get into the eyes. This may cause irritation of the eyes and may even affect the cornea.
The advantage of using a Blunt-Nosed Scissors is that it won’t hurt the cat, esp. its eyes, if it suddenly makes a movement while you are doing the trimming job. Trim her hair in a line that's parallel to the edge of the eyelid.
Apply Eye Wash and Pads…
… in and around the eye to remove accumulated debris. It’s important to clean away these dirt and debris so as to prevent discomfort and risk of infection. These debris can get trapped in the hairs and breed bacteria. It’s also important to clean those ugly tear stains and restore the good looks of the cute pet cat. Tear stains result when normal tears spill out at the corners of the eyes and settle on the hairs below, causing ugly discoloration and thickening. Eye Wash and Pads are for both, internal and external, treatment.
Apply Antibiotic Eye Ointment…
…on the cat’s eye before bathing, grooming, tear stain removal, for "dry eye" and other eye infections. You may even use this to protect a cat’s eyes from soap when bathing your pet cat.
Apply a short line of ointment along the inside of the lower lid, starting at the inside corner of the eye. As your pet blinks, the ointment will slowly spread over the surface of the eye. Ointments will blur your animal's vision for a few minutes after administration, so prevent your pet from bumping into things and becoming injured.
NOTE: As an alternative you may even use lubricating, Non-Medicated Ointment for the eyes while bathing. |
