What are the recommended vaccine shots for cats?
The types of shots your cat needs depend on the following factors: age, overall health and whether the cat is an outdoorsy one.
The standard practice is to vaccinate all cats for feline distemper (viral disease of some animals), feline herpes virus and rabies. Outdoorsy cats require special vaccines for diseases like, feline immunodeficiency virus and feline leukemia virus, the number one viral killer of cats.
While visiting a veterinary answer all his/her questions on your cat’s age, health, lifestyle, environment and medical history, as these will decide the vaccination program of your cat.
Why is my cat having a runny nose?
Like humans even cats too are prone to runny nose – but the felines have their own reasons for this problem: nasal mites, infections and the common cold. These diseases are fortunately treatable.
But it’s also possible that the nasal discharge may come from one nostril only. In that case, there may be something in the nostril (grass, dust or pollen) that’s irritating the lining and causing a runny nose. Don’t worry, this problem will resolve itself.
My cat is suffering from hair loss. What could be the reason?
Certain amount of hair loss is natural. Is it excessive? Is it patchy? Is it accompanied by inflamed skin? Is your cat suffering from flea infestation? If the answers are in the positive then you have a problem.
If your cat has problems like, flea infestation, allergies or other skin irritants, it will start scratching the affected areas, resulting in hair loss.
Hyperthyroidism is another disease that will result in hair loss in cats, especially older cats.
Any of these underlying causes has to be diagnosed first before treatment can be applied
My cat occasionally vomits. What could be the cause?
Sometimes cat may end up with consuming “uneatable” items. If it does that then nature will come to the cat’s rescue and will induce vomit to get rid of the “uneatable” items from the system.
What can cause weight loss in a cat?
Some of the most common causes of weight loss in cats are intestinal parasites, such as roundworms, hookworms or tapeworms. Fortunately, you can treat this easily with a few medications. Visit your vet, s/he will help you out.
But there are serious causes of weight loss in cats like, cancer, hyperthyroidism, kidney disease and dental infections.
How to do if a cat is constipated?
Make sure kitty gets plenty of water to drink, and if you've been feeding him all dry food, you might want to add 1/2 can of wet food a day for starters, with the goal of eventually getting him on a mostly canned food diet. Plain canned pumpkin is loaded with the fiber cats need for moving waste along the colon.
In case of severe constipation, you must pay a visit to the vet with your cat.
